The South Coast Marine Conservation Area (SCMCA) Reef Guardian Pilot program in collaboration with Agriculture Extension Unit launched the Reef Guardian Farmers Pilot Program on Wednesday 31st January, 2018.
Ms. Claudette Matthews, Mr. Ellick Matthews and Adolphus Mattews of Beliar, and Mr. Ramiche McLean of Fairhall; were selected to participate in the program with the Ministry of Agriculture Technical staff. The launch included distribution of the “REEF GUARDIAN FARMER” signs, handing over of 72 plants including:50 - fruit trees, 10 citrus tree and 12 foreign species (teak and mahogany) and bags of organic compost.
Present at the launch were representatives from the Forestry Division, Ministry of Agriculture - Soil Conservation Unit, Agriculture Extension Services and the National Parks Rivers and Beaches Authority. The Reef Guardian Pilot Program is being supported by a grant from the Australian Government Direct Aid Program.
